Increased Character Limit for Twitter Blue Users

Twitter’s character limit has been increased from 4000 characters to 10,000 for Twitter Blue users, as well as offering bold and italic text formatting to paying users.

Back in February, Twitter increased its character limit to 4000 characters, exclusively for Twitter Blue users in an effort by CEO Elon Musk to introduce long form content and encourage users to stay on the platform for longer.

A benefit for users utilising long form content is that content is searchable and can be good for exposure. Users can experiment with different types of content formats and see what works for their particular audience.

However - creators need to be aware that other users will need to tap ‘show more’ to view longer tweets. They will therefore need to be mindful that the 280 character limit for non-Twitter Blue subscribers is still necessary, as some readers may be put off by long texts with no breaks for pictures or other media.
