Using âsuggestiveâ emojis like the aubergine and peach? You may find your content pulled up by Facebook and Instagram on the grounds that it "facilitates, encourages or coordinates sexual encounters between adults".
Itâs part of the updated Community Standards, and an attempt to prevent online sexual solicitation. Now, âcontextually specific and commonly used sexual emojisâ will no longer be permitted alongside sexual statements, and will not be allowed to censor nudity. Links to pornographic content have also been banned.
The updated standards have been criticised by some as online censorship, and as unfairly targeting sex workers. For the majority of businesses, brands and artists, the changes shouldnât have an impact - although adult-oriented brands may need to alter their content strategies!
